Download & Install Guide:

  1. Download the BIOS06H0.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the BIOS06H0.EXE file to begin the installation.
  3. At the "BIOS06H0 - Welcome" box, click Continue.
  4. At the "BIOS Version W2K06H0 Upgrade Utility" screen, click Next.
  5. At the "Copying Files" screen, insert a formatted bootable floppy disk in the disk drive (A:), and then click Next. Please wait as the files are copied to the floppy disk.
  6. At the "Finished copying files" screen, verify that "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" is selected, and click Finish to restart the computer. Be sure to leave the floppy disk in the drive. The computer will boot the floppy disk and run the BIOS update utility. After the update is complete, the computer will turn off.
  7. Eject the floppy disk from the drive. It is recommended that you keep the disk in a safe place if it becomes necessary to reinstall the BIOS update.
  8. Turn on the computer.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the BIOS update is complete.



Uninstall Instructions

If it is necessary to run the BIOS06H0.EXE utility again, you will need to first remove the BIOS06H0 installation files. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the directory where the BIOS06H0.EXE file was downloaded and double-click it.
  2. At the "BIOS06H0 - Welcome" window, click Continue.
  3. At the "Setup" window, select "Remove" and click Next to remove the components.
  4. Insert the bootable floppy disk back into the drive.
  5. At the "Confirm File Deletion" box, click OK.
    NOTE: If a "ReadOnly File Detected" message box appears, click the box next to "Don't display this message again" to check it and then click Yes.
  6. At the "Maintenance Complete" screen, click Finish.

Important Note:

  • Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
  • For Windows 2000 Upgrade systems only: Before installing Windows 2000 Professional or this update, please be sure to read Installing the Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Operating System. Most of Sony's Windows 2000 software updates require you to install Windows 2000 Professional in C:WINNT. If Windows 2000 is not installed in this location, these updates will not install correctly.
  • This procedure will update the computer BIOS for Windows 2000. It may be necessary to remove and reinstall any installed hardware that did not ship with the computer. For assistance reinstalling the hardware, please consult the product documentation or contact the product manufacturer.
  • Before installing this update, you will need to prepare a 3½ bootable floppy disk to receive the installation files. For additional assistance, please see Creating a Bootable Floppy Disk for the Microsoft® Windows® XP Operating Systems.
    NOTE: If you do not have access to a Windows 98 or 95 boot disk, you will need a blank formatted disk and these additional items to complete the installation of this BIOS revision:
    • The original Sony System Recovery CD #1.
    • The Sony VAIO external PC Card CDROM, CDRW, or DVDROM drive connected to the computer.
  • During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
