Download & Install Guide:

  1. Download the FW900.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. Insert a blank formatted floppy disk into the computers floppy drive.
  3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the FW900.EXE file to begin the installation.
  4. At the "GDM-FW900 Information File" box, leave the "A:" entry, and click the OK button. The .INF files for all of the operating systems will be extracted onto the floppy disk.
  5. Leave the floppy disk in the drive.
The monitor INF files are now located on the floppy disk. Follow the Installation Instructions steps below to install the INF file.

Installation Instructions

The remaining portion of this procedure details how to install a monitor INF file. These instructions are broken into sections based on operating system.

Section I.    Windows 95/98
Section II.    Windows 98SE
Section III.    Windows 2000
Section IV.    Windows Millenium Edition (Me)

Please proceed with the section below that pertains to your computer's operating system.

Section I. Windows 95
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  2. At the "Control Panel" window, double-click the Display icon.
  3. At the "Display Properties" window, click the Settings tab.
  4. In the Settings tab, click the Advanced Properties button.
  5. At the "Advanced Display Properties" window, click the Monitor tab.
  6. In the Monitor tab, click the Change button.
  7. At the Select Device box, click the Have Disk button.
  8. At the "Install From Disk" box, leave the "A:" entry (which should designate your computer floppy drive) and click the Browse button.
  9. At the "Open" window, under Folders, double-click the Win9x folder, select the "Snymon17.inf" file located in the directory, and click OK.
  10. At the "Install From Disk" box, click OK.
  11. At the "Select device" window, click to highlight the SONY GDM-FW900 entry and click OK.
  12. At the "Display Properties" window, click Apply and OK. The screen may flicker and go dark for a moment.
  13. At the prompt, click Yes to keep the new setting.
  14. Click OK to close the "Advanced Display Properties" window.
  15. Click OK to exit the "Display Properties" window.
  16. Click the X in the top-right corner to close the "Control Panel" window.
  17. Remove the floppy disk from the drive.
    NOTE: If prompted, click OK or Yes to restart the computer. It is necessary to restart the computer in order for the new settings to take effect.
  18. Label the floppy disk "Sony GDM-FW900 Monitor .INF Files," and store it for future use. This procedure will need to be repeated if your system is ever fully reinstalled.

Section II. Windows 98 and 98SE
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  2. At the "Control Panel" window, double-click the Display icon.
  3. At the "Display Properties" window, click the Settings tab.
  4. In the Settings tab, click the Advanced button.
  5. At the "<graphics controller name> Properties" window, click the Monitor tab.
  6. In the Monitor tab, click the Change button.
  7. At the "Update Device Wizard" box, click Next
  8. At the "What do you want Windows to do?" screen, select "Display a list of drivers in a specific location..." and click Next.
  9. At the "Select the manufacturer and model of your hardware device..." screen, select "Show all hardware" and click the Have Disk button.
  10. At the "Install From Disk" box, leave the "A:" entry (which should designate your computer floppy drive) and click the Browse button.
  11. At the 'Open" window, under Folders, double-click the Win9x folder, select the "Snymon17.inf" file located in the directory, and click OK.
  12. At the "Install From Disk" box, click OK.
  13. At the "Select the manufacturer and model of your hardware device..." screen, click to highlight the SONY GDM-FW900 entry and click Next.
  14. At the "Windows driver search for file for device ..." screen, click Next.
  15. At the "Windows has finished installing the driver..." screen, click Finish.
  16. At the "Display Properties" window, click Apply and then click OK.
    NOTE: The screen may flicker and go dark for a moment. If prompted, click Yes to keep the new setting.
  17. Click OK to exit the "Display Properties" window.
  18. Click the X in the top-right corner to close the "Control Panel" window.
  19. Remove the floppy disk from the drive.
    NOTE: If prompted, click OK or Yes to restart the computer. It is necessary to restart the computer in order for the new settings to take effect.

Section III. Windows 2000

The procedure below requires that you be logged into Windows 2000 using a user account with administrator rights.
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, point to Control Panel, and click Display.
  2. At the "Display Properties" window, click the Settings tab.
  3. In the Settings tab, click the Advanced button.
  4. At the "<graphics controller name> Properties" box, click the Monitor tab.
  5. Under "Monitor Type," click the Properties button.
  6. At the "<monitor name> Properties" box, click the Driver tab.
  7. Click the Update Driver button.
  8. At the "Upgrade Device Driver Wizard" box, click Next.
  9. At the "Install Hardware Device Drivers" screen, select "Display a list of known drivers..." and click Next.
  10. At the "Select a Device Driver" screen, click the Have Disk button.
  11. At the "Install From Disk" box, leave the "A:" entry (which should designate your system floppy drive) and click the Browse button.
  12. At the "Locate File" box, next to "Look in," click the DOWN ARROW button and select "3½ Floppy (A:)."
  13. Double-click the Win2000 folder to open it. This action should automatically place a "Snymon17.inf" entry under File name.
  14. Click the Open button.
  15. At the "Install From Disk" box, click OK.
  16. At the "Upgrade Device Driver Wizard" screen, click to highlight the SONY GDM-FW900 entry and then click Next.
  17. At the "Completing the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard" screen, click the Finish button.
  18. At the "<monitor name> Properties" window, click Close.
  19. At the "<graphics controller name> Properties" window, click OK.
  20. At the "Display Properties" window, click OK.
  21. Remove the floppy disk from the drive.
    NOTE: If prompted, click OK or Yes to restart the computer. It is necessary to restart the computer in order for the new settings to take effect.
  22. Label the floppy disk "Sony GDM-FW900 Monitor .INF Files," and store it for future use. This procedure will need to be repeated if your system is ever fully reinstalled.

Section IV. Windows Millennium Edition (Me)

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.

  9. At the "Open" box, in the Folders window, double-click the WinME folder to open it. This action should automatically place a "Snymon17.inf" entry under File name.
  10. Click the OK button.
  11. At the "Install From Disk" box, click OK.
  12. At "Select Device" box, click to highlight "SONY GDM-FW900" and click OK. Windows Me will automatically load the file.
  13. At the "<graphics controller name> Properties" window, click Apply and then click OK.
  14. Click OK to close the "Display Properties" window.
  15. Remove the floppy disk from the drive.
