1. Download the MODEM_ZS.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the MODEM_ZS.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. At the "HCF Modem Driver for Sony PCG-Z505S & SX - Welcome" box, click Continue. Several setup boxes will appear during the installation. As the files are installed, these boxes will close automatically.
4. At the "Setup Complete" screen, select "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" (if it isn't already selected), and then click Finish.

As the computer restarts, the modem hardware will be redetected and the updated drivers installed. The installation of the modem driver upgrade is now complete.

If it is necessary to reinstall the HCF PCI Modem Drivers, you will need to first remove the MODEM_ZS.EXE installation files. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Go to the directory where the MODEM_ZS.EXE file was downloaded and double-click it.
2. At the "HCF Modem Driver for Sony PCG-Z505S & SX - Welcome" box, click Continue.
3. At the "Confirm File Deletion" window, click OK to remove all of its components. Please wait as the installation files are removed.
4. At the Windows Desktop, right-click the My Computer icon.
5. From the menu, select Properties.
6. At the "System Properties" window, click the Device Manager tab.
7. In the "Device Manager" tab, click the plus (+) next to the "Modem" category to expand it.
8. Under the "Modem" category, right-click the "Rockwell HCF 56K Speakerphone PCI Modem" entry.
9. From the menu, click Remove.
10. At the "Confirm Device Removal" box, click OK.
11. Click "Close" to exit the "System Properties" box.
12. Follow the steps below to restart the computer.
    1. Click Start and click Shut Down.
    2. At the "Shut Down Windows" box, select "Restart" and click OK.

After Windows restarts, the modem hardware will be redetected and the modem driver update should automatically reinstall itself. If the modem driver update does not automatically reinstall, it is recommended that you reinstall the original modem driver from the Application Recovery CD that came with your computer. After the original driver has been reinstalled, redownload and reinstall the MODEM_ZS.EXE file.

This utility updates the HCF PCI Modem Driver and resolves the issue where when the modem attempts to dial a number and receives a busy signal on two successive attempts, the modem will not redial the number until you have waited 60 seconds. This is due to the original modem drivers' compliance with FCC regulations at the time of manufacture. Sony has since received authorization to remove the redial limitation from the modem drivers.

• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
