1. Download the MSFORMAT.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the MSFORMAT.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. At the "Memory Stick Format - Welcome" box, click Next.
4. At the "Memory Stick Format - Installation Folder" box, click Continue to accept the location of the temporary installation files (by default, C:WindowsTempMemory Stick Format).
5. If a "Memory Stick Format" box appears, click Yes to create the temporary folder. Please wait as the installation files are copied to the computer. As the files are copied, both a Command Prompt box and a Setup box will appear and then close automatically.
6. At the "Choose Setup Language" box, confirm that "English" is selected and then click Next. Please wait as the remaining installation files are copied to the computer.
7. At the "Welcome" box, click Next.
8. At the "Choose Destination Location" box, click Next to accept the default "Destination Directory" (C:Program FilesSonyMemory Stick Format). Please wait as the Memory Stick Format Utility is installed.
9. At the "Setup Complete" screen, click Finish to complete the installation.

NOTE: If it is necessary to install the Memory Stick Format Utility again, you will need to first remove the MSFORMAT.EXE installation files. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
2. At the "Control Panel" window, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
3. At the "Add/Remove Programs Properties" box, in the Install/Uninstall tab, double-click the Memory Stick Format entry.
4. At the "Confirm File Deletion" box, click Yes.
5. At the "Remove Programs From Your Computer" box, click OK.
6. Click OK to close the "Add/Remove Programs Properties" box.
7. Click the X in the top-right corner to close the "Control Panel" window.
8. Click Start and click Shut Down.
9. At the "Shut Down Windows" box, select Restart and click OK. The MSFORMAT.EXE file can now be reinstalled.
   NOTE: If an "Overwrite Protection" box appears during the reinstallation, select Yes to All to continue.

This utility will install an updated Memory Stick Format Utility to resolve an issue where Memory Stick media cannot be reformatted to its full capacity.

• WARNING!!: The Format process will completely erase ALL data on the Memory Stick. Before reformatting, be sure to backup all important files saved on the Memory Stick.
• This utility is only for use with 4MB, 8MB, 16MB, 32MB, and 64MB Sony Memory Sticks. Do not use it to reformat Memory Stick media larger than 64MB.
• This utility is for use with Windows 98 computers with either an integrated Memory Stick slot or a Memory Stick PC Card Adapter.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
