1. BEFORE installing this update, it is necessary to identify the CD-ROM Drive installed in the computer, which will determine whether or not this update is required.
   1. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.
   2. In the Control Panel window, double-click the Performance and Maintenance icon.
   3. In the Performance and Maintenance window, under pick a Control Panel icon, double-click the System icon.
   4. In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.
   5. On the Hardware tab, click the Device Manager button.
   6. In the Device Manager window, double-click the DVD/CD-ROM drives icon.
   7. The list of DVD/CD-ROM devices should display a SAMSUNG CD-ROM SC-140C. If this device is not displayed, do not continue with the steps below because this firmware update should not be applied to your computer.
2. Download the SA-VA1010801LD.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SA-VA1010801LD.EXE file to begin the installation. Several setup boxes will briefly appear as the files are extracted and the computer model and CD-ROM drive is identified. As these processes complete, the boxes will close automatically.
   NOTE: If prompted to restart the computer, click OK, and after the computer restarts continue with step 5 above.
4. At the "Information" box, insert the 3½ bootable floppy disk into the drive and click OK.
5. At the "InstallShield Wizard Complete" screen, verify that "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" is selected and click Finish. Be sure to leave the bootable floppy disk with the firmware update files in the floppy drive. As the computer restarts, it will boot from the floppy disk instead of the hard drive. The Samsung SC-140C CD-ROM drive will be updated automatically.
   WARNING!!: After the firmware update has completed, the CD drive LED on the front panel of the computer may continue flashing, Please wait until the LED is off ( about 15 seconds), before continuing to next the step.
6. At the "A:>" prompt, eject and remove the floppy diskette from the drive.
7. Restart the computer.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the Samsung SC-140C firmware update is complete.

This utility installs updated CD-ROM drive firmware to resolve the issue where static noise occurs while playing audio from the CD-ROM drive.

• Not all of the above computer models include the Samsung CD-ROM Drive. To ensure your CD-ROM drive is a Samsung SC-140C, please follow the instructions below to identify your CD-ROM model.
• Before installing this update, you will need to prepare a 3½ bootable floppy disk.
• During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
