1. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
2. Download the SO-4020E0801JC03US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SO-4020E0801JC03US.EXE file to begin the installation.
4. At the "Firmware Update 2.0e For Sony DW-U12A DVD-RW Drive" screen, click "Next".
   NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear as the files are extracted and the computer model is identified. As these processes complete, the boxes will close automatically.
5. At the "Firmware Update" box, click "Yes" to start firmware update program.
6. At the "Sony DVD/CD RW Drive Firmware Updater -" box, confirm that "Sony DVD RW DW-U12A" is displayed in the "Detected Drive(s)" box, and then click "Start Update".
   NOTE: If "No Updatable Drive exists" is displayed in the "Detected Drive(s)" box, this means the DVD RW DW-U12A Drive is not detected in this computer. Click "Exit" to abort this program, and check the optical drive configuration in the Windows Device Manager.
7. At the "Before Updating" Box, click "Yes" to restart the computer.
   NOTE: The firmware update utility will continue after computer restarts.
8. The "Sony DVD/CD RW Drive Firmware Updater" box appears again when the computer restarts, click "Start Update".
   NOTE: You will not need to restart the computer again until the firmware update has completed.
9. At the "Start update" box, click "OK" to flash the firmware.
   NOTE: Please wait while the firmware flashing is in process.
   WARNING!!: Do not interrupt the firmware flashing process or it may damage the DVD-RW drive.
10. At the "Update Complete Successfully" box, click "OK" to restart the computer.
    NOTE: Please wait for computer to restart.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the Sony® DW-U12A DVD-RW Drive firmware update is complete.

• BEFORE installing this update, it is necessary to identify the DVD/CD Drive installed on the computer, which will determine whether or not this update is required.
  1. On the Windows Desktop, right-click the "My Computer" icon.
  2. On the dropdown menu, click "Properties".
  3. At the "System properties" box, click the "Hardware" tab and then click the "Device Manager" button.
  4. At the "Device Manager" window, click the (+) sign next to DVD/CD-ROM drives category to expand the menu.
  5. The "Sony DVD RW DW-U12A" should be listed, If it is, please continue with this update. If it is not, then this update is not for your computer.
• Please eject any CDs or DVDs that may be in the DVD-RW drive before installing this update.
• During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
