1. BEFORE installing this update, it is necessary to identify the DVD-RW Drive installed on the computer, to determine whether or not this update is required.
   1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
   2. At the "Control panel" window, click the System icon.
   3. At the "System properties" box, click the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.
   4. At the "Device Manager" window, click the (+) sign next to DVD/CD-ROM drives category to expand the menu.
   5. The "Sony DVD RW DW-U12A" should be listed. If it is, please continue with this update. If it is not, do not continue with the steps below because this update is not for your system.
2. Download the SO-420C00801D3.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SO-420C00801D3.EXE file to begin the installation.
4. At the "Firmware Update 2.0C For Sony DW-U12A DVD-RW Drive" box, click Next. Several setup boxes will briefly appear as the files are extracted and the computer model and CD-ROM Drive is identified. As these processes complete, the boxes will close automatically.
5. At the "Firmware Update" box, click Yes to start the firmware update program.
6. At the "Sony DVD/CD RW Drive Firmware Updater -" box, click Start Update.
7. At the "Before Updating" Box, click Yes to restart the computer. The firmware update utility will continue after computer restarts.
8. After the computer restarts, the "Firmware Update" box will appear again, click Yes to start the firmware update.
9. The "Sony DVD/CD RW Drive Firmware Updater" box will appear again, click Start Update to flash (update) the firmware ( You will not need to restart Window again until the firmware update has completed).
10. At the "Confirm update" box, click OK. Please wait while the firmware flashing is in process.
    WARNING!!: Do not interrupt the firmware flashing process or it may damage the DVD-RW drive.
11. At the "Update Compete" message, click OK.

After the computer restarts, installation of the Sony® DW-U12A DVD-RW Drive firmware update is complete.

• Please eject any CDs or DVDs that may be in the DVD-RW drive before installing this update.
• During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
