1. Download the SO-420D0C01G304US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double click the SO-420D0C01G304US.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. At the "Sony DVD+/-RW DW-U14A Firmware Update Utility for Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP" box, click Next.
4. At the "License Agreement" dialog box, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "I Agree".
5. At the "Firmware Updater" dialog box, click Yes.
6. At the "Sony DVD/CD RW Drive Firmware Updater" dialog box, click Start Update.
7. At the "Before Updating" dialog box, click Yes to restart the computer. After the computer restarts, the Firmware Update Utility will launch automatically.
8. At the "Sony DVD/CD RW Drive Firmware Updater" dialog box, click Start Update.
9. At the "Start Update" dialog box, click OK. Please wait while the DVD RW firmware is flashed. Do not interrupt the update process, as it may damage the drive.
10. At the "Update Completed Successfully" dialog box, click Yes to restart the computer.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the Sony DW-U14A DVD RW optical drive firmware is complete.

This utility will update the Sony® DW-U14A DVD+-RW Firmware to provide support for playback of a DVD+R Double Layer single session finalized disc.

• WARNING!!: Do not interrupt the update process, as it may damage the drive.
• Please eject any CDs or DVDs that may be in the DVD-ROM drive before you run this update.
• During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
