1. Download the SO-S015g0C02HW04US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SO-S015g0C02HW04US.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. At the "Sony DVD+/-RW DW-U50A Firmware Update Utility for Microsoft® Windows® 2000 and XP " box, click "Next".
4. At the "License Agreement" dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "I Agree" to continue with the installation.
5. At the Firmware Updater dialog box, click "Yes".
6. At the "Sony DVD/CD RW Drive Firmware Updater" dialog box, click "Start Update" button.
7. At the "Before Updating" dialog box, click "Yes" to restart the computer.
8. After computer restarts, the Firmware Update Utility will launch automatically.
9. At the "Start Update" dialog box, click "Yes" to confirm the Firmware Update. Please wait while the DVD-RW firmware is flashed.
   WARNING!!: Do not interrupt the update process, as it may damage the drive.
10. At the "Update Completed Successfully" dialog box, click "Yes" to restart the computer.

After the computer restarts, the Sony® DW-U50A DVD-RW Optical Drive firmware update is complete.

This update adds support for the playback of DVD+R Dual Layer single session finalized discs.

• BEFORE installing this update, it is necessary to identify the DVD-RW Drive installed on the computer, to determine whether or not this update is required.
  1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
  2. At the "Control panel" window, click the System icon.
  3. At the "System properties" box, click the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.
  4. At the "Device Manager" window, click the (+) sign next to DVD/CD-ROM drives category to expand the menu.
  5. The "SONY DVD RW DW-U50A" should be listed. If it is, please continue with this update. If it is not, do not continue with the steps below because this update is not for your system.
• During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
