1. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
2. Download the SOFOPD-00677403-US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SOFOPD-00677403-US.EXE file to begin the installation.
4. At the "Sony® DW-U14A DVD±RW Optical Drive Firmware Update Utility for Microsoft..." screen, click "Next".
5. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "I Agree" to continue with the installation.
6. At the "Firmware Updater" dialog box, make sure all other programs are closed, then click "Yes" to continue.
7. At the "Sony® DVD/CD RW Drive Firmware Updater" window, verify that the "SONY DVD RW DW-U14A" drive is selected, then click the "Open Tray" button.
8. At the "Open Tray" dialog box, click "Yes".
9. At the "Tray Opened Successfully" dialog, click "OK".
10. At the "Sony® DVD/CD RW Drive Firmware Updater" window, click the "Start Update" button.
11. At the "Before Updating" dialog box, click "Yes" to restart the computer and perform the update.
12. After the computer restarts, at the "Sony® DVD/CD RW Drive Firmware Updater" window, click the "Start Update" button.
13. At the "Start Update" dialog box, click "OK" to perform firmware update.
    NOTE: Please wait while the DVD-RW firmware is flashed.
    WARNING!!: Do not interrupt the update process, as doing so may damage the drive.
14. At the "Update Completed Successfully" dialog box, click "OK" to restart your computer.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the Sony® DW-U14A DVD±RW Optical Drive Firmware Update is complete.

This utility updates the firmware for the Sony® DW-U14A DVD±RW optical drive to version 2.0e and provides read support for 8cm DVD+RW media.
