1. Disconnect all peripheral devices connected to the computer, unplug all network cables, and remove any inserted PC cards.
2. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
3. Download the SOFOPD-00829906-US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
4. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SOFOPD-00829906-US.EXE file to begin the installation.
5. At the "Sony® DW-D56A DVD±RW Optical Drive Firmware Update Utility for Microsoft..." screen, click "Next".
6. At the "License Agreement" dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "I Agree" to continue with the installation.
7. At the "Warning" dialog box, make sure all the conditions are met, then click "OK".
8. At the "Firmware Update Tool ver 1.1 for VAIO" dialog box, make sure the Sony DVD RW DW-D56A drive is selected, then click "Update".
9. At the "Update Confirm" dialog box, click "Update".
   NOTE: Please wait while the DVD±RW firmware is flashed.
   WARNING!!: Do not interrupt the update process, as it may damage the drive.
10. At the "Reboot Warning" dialog box, click "Reboot".

After the computer restarts, the installation of the Sony® DW-D56A DVD±RW Optical Drive Firmware Update is complete.

NOTE: Be sure to restart your anti-virus software and re-enable any applications that you disabled in order to install this update.

This utility updates the firmware of the Sony® DW-D56A DVD±RW Optical Drive to version PFS3 and improves the read and write capabilities of the drive.

• Before running this update:
  • Ensure that the optical drive is empty.
  • Close all running applications.
  • Close any Anti-Virus software that is running.
  • Disable the screen saver.
  • Remove all peripheral devices connected to the computer.
  • Unplug all network cables.
  • Remove any inserted PC cards.
  • Disable Stand-by and Hibernation mode.
• This update will not work if the user name contains double-byte (Asian) characters. Make sure the user name contains alphanumeric characters only.
• Do not turn off the computer while installing this firmware update.
• During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
