1. Download the USBFDD.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. If the USB-Floppy Disk Drive is connected to the notebook, disconnect it.
3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the USBFDD.EXE file to begin the installation. An "Unpacking..." box, a "Setup" box, and a DOS box will appear as the setup files are installed. Once the setup files are installed, the boxes will close automatically.
4. At the "USB-FDD Driver Utility" screen, click Next to begin the installation.
5. At the "Start Copying Files" screen, click Next to begin copying the files to the system. A "Setup Status" screen will appear and the setup files will be installed. Once the setup files are installed, the screen will close automatically.
6. At the "FlashBuster-U Driver for Windows 98" box, click Yes to begin the driver installation.
7. At the second "FlashBuster-U Driver for Windows 98" box, click Yes to restart the computer.
8. At the "Setup Complete" screen, verify that "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" is selected and then click Finish to restart the computer.
9. After Windows has finished restarting, connect the USB-Floppy Disk Drive to the notebook. Windows will detect the USB-Floppy Disk Drive hardware and start the Add New Hardware Wizard to install the drivers.
10. At the "This wizard searches for new drivers..." screen, click Next.
11. At the "What do you want Windows to do?" screen, verify that "Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended)" is selected and then click Next.
12. At the "Windows will search for new drivers in its driver database..." screen, click Next.
13. At the "Windows driver file search for the device" screen, click Next.
14. At the "Windows has finished installing the software..." screen, click Finish.

The installation of the updated drivers for the USB-Floppy Disk Drive is now complete.

If it is necessary to install the USB-Floppy Disk Drive Driver Utility again, you will need to first remove the USBFDD.EXE installation files. To do so, follow these steps:

1. If the USB-Floppy Disk Drive is not connected to the notebook, reconnect it.
2. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
3. At the "Control Panel" window, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
4. At the "Add/Remove Programs Properties" box, scroll through the list of installed software and double-click the "Y-E DATA FlashBuster-U" entry. A "Setup" box and a DOS box will appear as the setup files are installed. Once the setup files are installed, the boxes will close automatically.
5. At the "Welcome" screen, select "Remove" and click Next.
6. At the "Confirm File Deletion" box, click OK.
7. After the files have been uninstalled, click OK to close the "Add/Remove Programs Properties" box.
8. At the "Control Panel" window, double-click the System icon.
9. At the "System Properties" box, click the Device Manager tab.
10. In the Device Manager tab, double-click the "Universal Serial Bus Controller" category.
11. Under the "Universal Serial Bus Controller" category, click the "Y-E DATA FlashBuster-U" entry to highlight it.
12. Click the Remove button.
13. At the "Confirm Device Removal" box, click OK.
14. Click Close to exit the "System Properties" box.
15. Disconnect the USB-Floppy Disk Drive from the notebook.
16. Click the X in the top-right corner to close the "Control Panel" window.
17. Click Start, point to Find, and click Files or Folders.
18. At the "Find: All Files" box, in the "Named:" field, type USBFDD.SYS.
19. Verify that the (C:) drive is displayed in the "Look in:" field and click the Find Now button.
20. In the search results section, right-click the Usbfdd.sys file.
21. From the menu, click Delete.
22. At the "Confirm File Delete" box, click Yes.
23. Click the X in the top-right corner to close the "Find: Files named usbfdd.sys" box.

The USBFDD.EXE file can now be reinstalled. Be sure to reinstall it before the USB-Floppy Disk Drive is reconnected to the notebook.

The original USB Floppy disk drive drivers that ship with some VAIO® notebooks do not allow the McAfee® VirusScan application to create an Emergency Boot Disk. This utility installs updated drivers that resolve this issue.

• Before installing this update, be sure that the system has a USB Floppy Disk Drive connected and the system is also connected to AC power.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
